Choose a Duck-Sized Opening

Many automatic poultry doors are designed around chickens. Confirm the opening is wide and tall enough for the largest duck to walk through without crouching, squeezing wings, or hesitating.

A gentle approach surface matters because ducks do not hop through elevated openings as easily as chickens.

Timer Versus Light Sensor

Timers are predictable but must be adjusted as day length changes. Light sensors follow seasonal sunset yet can be affected by shade, storms, artificial lights, or the house location.

Predator and Pinch Safety

A duck may remain at the pool, hide a nest, become injured, or be blocked by a dominant bird. Check that every bird is inside and that the door has fully latched.

Keep a manual closing option available during power failures or mechanical problems.
